History of the Martin Elevator
In March 1925 a group of farmers got together and were very serious about starting a grain elevator. They organized a meeting and decided to go ahead with their idea. They elected a Board of Directors to serve including, Jacob L. Rust, President; Anton Putz, Vice President; John Knutson, Treasurer; and Jacob Rust Jr., Secretary.
They purchased the Woodworth Elevator for $6,000 and opened the doors on July 15, 1925.
It started out as a very successful business with Bert Andahl as the first manager. They paid out five cents per bushel dividend the first year in operation.
In 1959 they built a 40,000 bushel annex.
In 1974 they company decided to build a new working house, driveway, and office. At the time the estimate for a 50,000 bushel house was $252,639.
In 1975 the elevator was strictly a co-op business and every patron had a voting right. All that was needed was a membership card, which cost $1.00 per member.
In 1986 the two 40,000 bushel bins were constructed. In 1999 the old east annex was condemned due to an unstable foundation and two new steels bins were erected.
In September of 2003 we added a grain dryer.
